Leeds United’s left-back situation has been the subject of much debate this season.
Junior Firpo has been injury-prone and inconsistent, while Sam Byram has had long-term injury problems in the past.
There was a lot of clamour for Leeds to sign a new left-back in January. However, as their recent results have shown, Leeds didn’t really need to sign a new left-back in the winter.
Indeed, Leeds have been unbeaten for quite some time now, and Firpo has found his best form in this time.
Away from Firpo, Sam Byram has been biding his time on the bench, and while he’s not played that much football recently, Phil Hay has stated that Daniel Farke is indeed a big fan of the defender.
Speaking on , Hay has been discussing Leeds’ full-back situation, and he says that Farke is indeed a big fan of Byram.

Hay spoke about the defender.
“You know we were saying to sign a left-back. What would’ve been the point? Would they have played? I don’t think they would. You have Byram on the bench who if Firpo isn’t available will come into the team. It’s not as if whoever could’ve been signed would’ve played ahead of him, because Farke thinks an awful lot of Byram,” Hay said.
Useful
Byram may not be the biggest name or the most important player in this Leeds squad, but he is an important player.
He’s versatile, he’s experienced, he’s great behind the scenes and he’s reliable.
He’s exactly the type of player every manager wants to have in their squad.
It’s no coincidence that Farke has had Byram at both Norwich and Leeds, and while he may not be using him that much, the Leeds boss appears to be a big fan of the defender.
