‘Phenomenal’ striker who Mikel Arteta previously wanted at Arsenal put up for sale for £65m

Arsenal number one priority this summer will be to sign a striker. A high-profile no.9 that can hold the ball-up, dominate two centre-backs and bring others into play – as well as scoring 20 goals a season.

It is probably the one thing Arsenal lack – other than a top left-back. But if you compare Arsenal to Man City, the one glaring omission is a world-class striker. Arsene Wenger said Erling Haaland is “exceptional”.

Kai Havertz is improving, but is he a centre-forward? He has been used as a no.8 at times by Mikel Arteta, as well as a 10, and a striker. Gabriel Jesus has been injured and lacks the consistency required up top.

Arsenal desperately need to sign a no.9 in the summer

Plenty have been linked with a move to The Emirates. The likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney, Alexander Isak and more. Just today, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko has been mentioned as a possible £42m addition.

Arsenal need a no.9 if they are to get past City – which of course, they could still do this season. But it is the one thing that probably separates the Gunners from Mikel Arteta’s old side. Inter Milan could help.

World Cup finalist Marcus Thuram joined Inter from German side Gladbach last summer, and has since had a hand in 25 goals for the Italian club. He’s scored 13 goals in 41, laying on 12 assists. He could leave.

How much Arsenal would have to pay to sign Marcus Thuram

A report from says that Inter will listen to proposals of £65m in the summer, if bids are made. Last summer, Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the striker – but he opted to go to Inter instead.

Despite his impressive start to life at Inter – even if he has only got 13 goals of his own – Inter are open to his exit if they can rake in a £65m fee. But that is a fee within Arsenal’s price range, ahead of the summer.

Described as “phenomenal”, and given that Arteta was keen on Thuram just a year ago, surely Arsenal have got to consider reigniting interest in the Frenchman and bring him to The Emirates from Inter Milan.
