Peter Martin claims 22-year-old isn’t good enough for Celtic and should be dropped

The spotlight on the Celtic squad intensifies today as the fallout over the Kilmarnock defeat continues.

And this time it’s the turn of Hyeongyu Oh to receive some treatment as he is now criticised by Peter Martin for not just his role in the Kilmarnock defeat, but his role in the Celtic team overall.

The pundit can’t believe that there are people at Celtic still willing to give the South Korean striker a chance and he believes that he should be dropped by Brendan Rodgers.

Martin said [], “Oh is not the answer and I don’t know why anybody even perseveres with this. His goalscoring form is not good enough.”

Oh was by not the worst player on the Rugby Park pitch on Sunday. In fact, the 22-year-old had a fairly solid first half and got himself into some decent goalscoring positions.

On another day he could have had a couple of goals but he just didn’t seem to have the rub of the green in Ayrshire.

Oh’s goalscoring record isn’t as bad as Martin makes out. With five to his name already this season, he is level with Kyogo Furuhashi and Luis Palma despite starting more games from the bench.

Oh is rated highly with his national manager, Jurgen Klinsmann. The Germany legend has earmarked the youngster as one who could be a superstar for South Korea in the future and if anyone knows a good striker it’s him.

Let’s not forget, Oh is still a young man learning his trade. He has only been at Celtic for around 18 months and most of that time has been spent playing second fiddle to Kyogo.

I think he is still an important squad player who offers Celtic a different option. In my opinion, he shouldn’t be written of just yet and be given more time on the pitch to prove his worth.
