Peter Crouch urges for more from Liverpool forward Firmino

Peter Crouch has claimed he wants to see more out of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino after the defeat to Brighton on Wednesday night.

Firmino, 29, is an ever-present in the Reds XI and has been instrumental to the success of Jurgen Klopp’s team in the past couple of years.

But the £29million () striker often comes in for criticism for his lack of direct goal involvements, albeit stats don’t show for movement off the ball and link-up play.

He’s currently on six goals and six assists in 31 games across all competitions this season, which puts him fourth in the team’s goalscoring charts.

He’s behind injured duo Diogo Jota (nine) and Sadio Mane (10), as well as star man Mohamed Salah (21).

Crouch has stated that Firmino is one individual in the Liverpool ranks that should do more.

“There’s an over-reliance on Salah, Firmino’s got to step up. It felt like he’s coming back into it. But Salah is the one scoring the goals, he’s still got 20-goals and we’re talking about him not being on top form,”

TBR’s view:

With Jota currently sidelined through injury, the reliance on the front trio to deliver is as tough as ever and didn’t help that Mane missed the Brighton game as well.

But the Brazilian attacker is such a vital player on Merseyside and key to Klopp’s system.

He certainly can do more as a goal threat and perhaps get himself into more goalscoring positions around the box, but trying to change the way he plays his game would make little sense.
