Peter Crouch says Tottenham have as good a chance as Liverpool to win PL title
Peter Crouch has told the Press Association – – that he feels Tottenham Hotspur have as good a chance of winning the Premier League title as Liverpool and Manchester City, suggesting that the latter two clubs are playing below par.
Tottenham Hotspur have impressed during the early stages of the season, sitting in fifth after six Premier League matches and just two off the top. They would be clear by two, had they held on to wins over West Ham and Newcastle.
Five wins from five Europa League games and a penalty-shootout win over Chelsea to enter the last eight of the Carabao Cup have all contributed to an excellent start under Jose Mourinho. Some have even suggested the title is in their grasp.
Former Spurs striker Crouch agrees. While Crouch believes Liverpool and Manchester City are favourites, he believes Spurs have as good a chance as anyone – given the stuttering form of both sides, and the crazy nature of this season’s league.
“It is a crazy league and it feels like anyone can beat anyone at the moment,” “I would say City and Liverpool aren’t as strong as they were and other teams have got stronger.
“Can Tottenham win it? I’m not sure but I think they’ve got as good a chance as anyone. City and Liverpool have to be the favourites just because they’ve been the strongest teams over the last three years.”
TBR’s view – What do Tottenham need to do to mount title challenge?
Firstly, Mourinho has got to keep his best players fit. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are both in the form of their lives, but Spurs struggled without them last season. Keeping them injury free is absolutely crucial.
The added depth of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius will help with that. The work in the transfer window has been perfect, Spurs have plenty of cover, quality all over the park, and more leaders in the dressing room.
Now, it is about consistency. They must keep their level of performance up, the way it was against Manchester United, the first half against West Ham and the second 45 at Burnley. Two clean sheets in a row is also a very good sign.
