Peter Crouch says player Arsenal sold for just £16m was even better than Alan Shearer

Peter Crouch has now made a claim about a player Arsenal sold.

The Gunners have watched many top players depart over the years, such as Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie and Samir Nasri – among others – although one man Arsenal sold has now been described as being even better than Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s record goalscorer…

Peter Crouch puts Thierry Henry ahead of Alan Shearer

While playing a game for TNT Sports ahead of the UEFA Champions League returning this week, Crouch opined that Thierry Henry was indeed better than Shearer – despite scoring 85 Premier League goals fewer than the Englishman.

The Frenchman netted 175 goals and provided 74 assists in 258 Premier League appearances, whereas Shearer scored 260 in 441 games, assisting a further 64.

Crouch said “Shearer, could be the GOAT (greatest of all time)” before putting him second on his list.

However, when Henry popped up on the screen, the TNT Sports pundit swiftly stuck the Arsenal legend in first, confidently stating: “He is the best Premier League striker of all time.”

Despite the fact Shearer scored more goals, we cannot argue with Crouch.

That is mainly because Henry – Mikel Merino’s favourite Arsenal player ever – was more impactful when the amount of appearances are taken into account, with the Frenchman remarkably recording 249 goal involvements in just 258 games, whereas Shearer provided 324 in 441 outings.

Arsenal eventually sold Henry – who Fabregas recently said was in the same bracket as Lionel Messi – to Barcelona for just back in June 2007, having initially signed him from Juventus for £11m in August 1999.

Arsenal legend is the GOAT

Some might argue – mainly Newcastle fans – but Crouch was absolutely spot on to put Henry in the No.1 spot above Shearer.

The man from Les Ulis was not only a fantastic goalscorer, but he had the poise and skill to absolutely embarrass opponents, seemingly taking liberties, safe in the knowledge that his fellow footballers paled in comparison when up against him.

If Arsenal manage to sign someone even 50% as good as Henry in future, the Emirates Stadium faithful are in for a treat.
