Peter Crouch praises Tottenham striker Carlos Vinicius for his Europa League display
Peter Crouch was highly complimentary of Tottenham’s Carlos Vinicius for his individual display on Wednesday in the Europa League.
The Brazilian centre-forward scored twice for Spurs during their 4-0 victory against Austrian side Wolfsberger.
Jose Mourinho’s side are now in the Europa League last 16 after beating Wolfsberger by an 8-1 aggregate scoreline across the two legs.
Vinicius, who plays second fiddle to Harry Kane at striker, has had most of his opportunities in cup competitions this season.
The 25-year-old left-footer has scored six of his nine goals so far this season in the Europa League competition.
Crouch credited the on-loan Benfica attacker for his performance last night, but suggested that he can do better when holding the ball up and bringing others into play.
“A good header from Vinicius. He seems to really come alive in the box,”
“I think some of his hold up play could’ve been better at times. I thought he played well and couple of goals is only going to do his confidence the world of good.”
TBR’s View:
For someone who’s not played loads this season, Vinicius has looked fairly reliable whenever called upon and nine goals in 19 matches across all competitions is excellent.
The South American striker can’t hold the ball up quite like Kane, who is one of the best around and usually makes the ball stick in any situation.
But he’s really intelligent in the 18-yard box and has done a great job in Europe so far.
It’ll be interesting to see if Mourinho repays him by sticking with him further into the Europa League competition.
