Peter Crouch amazed by one Liverpool player in win over Tottenham

of Liverpool’s late win over Tottenham Hotspur that he believes Curtis Jones produced his best performance in a Liverpool shirt so far.

Liverpool earned a crucial three points at this early stage in the Premier League title race as Roberto Firmino’s late header gifted Jurgen Klopp’s side all three points. Mo Salah’s opener had been cancelled out by Son Heung-min.

Jones, 19, has benefited from the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago being injured – by becoming a regular in the Liverpool midfield this season. He clocked up his 15th appearance of the season.

WhoScored claim Jones completed a whopping 105 of his 112 passes – including two key passes, and was second only to Jordan Henderson on interceptions. Ex-Liverpool star Crouch heaped praise on him after the full-time whistle.

“I thought Curtis Jones was magnificent tonight,” Crouch said. “It’s the best game I’ve seen him play in a Liverpool shirt. He was everywhere and Henderson rubbed off on him. There are positives to come from the injury crisis.”

TBR’s view – Can Jones take over from Wijnaldum?

The Dutchman is yet to sign a new deal and with January edging closer, it is becoming more and more clear that the former Newcastle man will leave the club when his contract expires next summer.

So, Liverpool need a replacement. Right now, Jones is making the case why the Reds do not need to enter the transfer window and instead entrust the Merseyside-born midfielder with that role.

Certainly, on Wednesday, he was excellent and judging on that performance – he is the ideal replacement.
