Peter Crouch admits he was very disappointed with 25-year-old Tottenham player last night

Peter Crouch has admitted he was very disappointed with Cristian Romero after Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Chelsea.

Crouch spoke on this morning and reflected on a chaotic 4-1 defeat for Spurs on Monday evening.

Tottenham took the lead inside the opening six minutes after an exceptional move finished off by Dejan Kulusevski.

But it all unravelled for Spurs after Cristian Romero was sent off due to a rash tackle on Enzo Fernandez inside his own penalty area.

Cole Palmer made no mistake from the spot and Micky van de Ven also went off with a hamstring injury in the first half.

Spurs managed to hold on for a large period of the game even after they were reduced to nine men following Destiny Udogie’s red card.

But Peter Crouch was disappointed with Romero’s display after the Argentine had made such a promising start to the season.

Crouch disappointed with Romero’s latest Tottenham display

Speaking on talkSPORT, Crouch admitted that he fears Romero has gone back to his ‘old ways’ after last night’s defeat.

“They were expected to win and obviously the circumstances of the game with you’d have to say lack of discipline from Romero,” he said.

“We haven’t seen it as much this season obviously but we’ve seen it in previous seasons, he’s kind of back to his old ways because he’s such a good defender, it’s a real shame.

“And that really cost Tottenham, but you kind of expect them to bounce back next game.”

Just moments before he was sent off, Romero was fortunate to get away with a kick out at Levi Colwill.

The 25-year-old overstepped the line on a few occasions last season and had become a bit of a liability for Tottenham at times.

Yet, he seemed transformed under Postecoglou this season and had struck up a brilliant partnership with Van de Ven.

It’s clear the occasion got to Romero last night and he will undoubtedly be disappointed after letting his teammates down.
