‘Perfect Ceballos replacement’: Some fans in awe of reported Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target’s display today

Reported Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Marcel Sabitzer was in action for RB Leipzig today as the Bundesliga returned from a two-month hiatus.

reported in March that both the Gunners and Spurs were eyeing the Austria international, who scored twice in the Champions League second leg against Jose Mourinho’s side.

The 25-year-old has predominantly played on the right flank for Leipzig, but can also play as a number 10, and has impressed this season with 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

Sabitzer had to make do with a place on the bench today as Julian Nagelsmann’s charges hosted Freiburg in their first game since March, when the league was suspended in wake of the global health crisis.

He got 21 minutes under his belt and impressed during his cameo in a game which saw Leipzig labour to a 1-1 draw and lose further ground on Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich – who play tomorrow – in the title race.

The Red Bulls had 17 shots, seven of which were on target, but could only score once, while Freiburg had three shots, only one of which was on target – but it was the game’s opening goal.

Manuel Gulde’s 34th minute opener came against the run of play, and Leipzig had to wait until 13 minutes from time before Poulsen emphatically headed home their equaliser.

There was late VAR-related drama too, as Robin Koch slotted home what seemed to be a 93rd-minute winner for Freiburg, only for VAR to rule there had been an offside in the build-up.

What did fans make of Sabitzer’s display? Here is some of the social media reaction:
