‘They were not good’: Pep Guardiola reacts to Leeds moving on from Bielsa

Marcelo Bielsa left Leeds United this weekend and one of his biggest fans in management, Pep Guardiola, has been having his say on the now ex-Leeds boss.

Guardiola has often spoken of his admiration for Bielsa. It’s well known in the football sphere that Pep loves Bielsa and sees him as one of the ‘godfathers’ of football management.

Of course, Bielsa leaving Elland Road was always going to be brought up to Guardiola at some point. And speaking ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Peterborough United, Guardiola admitted he is disappointed to see Bielsa go.

“I am so sorry for him. His legacy is there in Leeds’ city and the club and I am pretty sure with the players. Unfortunately as managers we are subject to results and lately they were not good. But in the four seasons, he was spectacular to watch and wish him all the best,” Guardiola told.

Where Bielsa ends up next, remains to be seen. The Argentinian has managed all around the world and there will no doubt be a club out there willing to take a punt on him.

As Leeds fans have seen, when Bielsa gets it right, it brings some of the most exciting football to the fore.

TBR’s View: Bielsa Deserves Respect From All

Did we ever expect any different from Guardiola here? His admiration for Marcelo Bielsa has been apparent throughout his stay in England.

For Guardiola, it is a case of just paying respects and complimenting a manager who he clearly has a lot of time for.

The Premier League will be a different place without Bielsa’s Leeds. Of course, Jesse Marsch could well improve them further and bring a new and improved Leeds to the table. But as Guardiola noted, some of the moments Leeds had under Bielsa were ‘spectacular’.
