Pep Guardiola makes claim about Rodrigo Bentancur after Manchester City beat Tottenham

Pep Guardiola hailed Tottenham players including Rodrigo Bentancur after Manchester City came back to beat them 4-2 last night.

The man came back into the Spurs starting XI for the first time since the World Cup last night and helped them race into a 2-0 half-time lead.

City roared back in the second half to cut the gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League back down to just five points.

But Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports after the game, was full of praise for Antonio Conte’s men and namechecked a few of them, including Bentancur.

Guardiola hails Bentancur

He said: “We gave them goals. Tottenham is one of the toughest opponents I ever faced.

“From Antonio, how good they are, how well they defend, how organised they are, how good they build up, how they link with Harry Kane.

“Kulusevski, Son, even Bentancur and the other one, they make incredible switch of plays, opposite sides. The threat they have in every single moment is incredible.”

Bentancur made a real difference to Tottenham’s midfield in terms of his ability to get on the ball and play with composure and also his pressing.

He played superbly well at the World Cup and was in great form for Tottenham before that as well, so his injury came at an awful time.

Conte will hope he does not feel any after effects as Spurs look to recover from the loss here and against Arsenal on Sunday when they face Fulham on Monday night.
