People inside Old Trafford privately think that Manchester United are trying to make a really risky signing

Manchester United are in desperate need of a new striker this summer.

The Red Devils have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, but neither player has done enough to be relied upon next season.

Matheus Cunha has arrived at Old Trafford, and Ruben Amorim is now looking for an out-and-out striker who will come in and hit the ground running.

However, the player Manchester United are looking at doesn’t quite check that box.

There are real concerns at Manchester United about Hugo Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike is among the most exciting strikers available on the market this summer

The Frenchman had a phenomenal season at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2024/25. He scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions, which is a stunning return.

Multiple clubs are keen to sign the striker this summer, including the Red Devils.

Reports have claimed that Manchester United have held talks about signing Ekitike this summer, but they face competition from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.

Now, claim that ‘influential figures behind the scenes’ at Old Trafford ‘have fears’ that Ekitike would be a ‘risky signing’.

It has been revealed that the Frankfurt star does not fit the type of striker that United originally planned to sign this summer – they wanted a proven goalscorer who would instantly make them a force.

The concerns among key figures at the club are said to be ‘over whether Ekitike’s attributes and pedigree fully align with the type of reliable goalscorer Amorim has been pushing for, while there are additional fears that he does not represent good value for money thanks to Eintracht Frankfurt’s valuation’.

However, despite that, people at Manchester United see Ekitike as ‘a talent with significant promise’.

Wesley Sneijder’s verdict on Hugo Ekitike should ease Manchester United’s fears

Manchester United’s concerns over Ekitike are definitely valid.

The Frenchman is still only 22 and has played less than 150 senior club games. His time at a big club like PSG wasn’t great, and his price tag – £84 million – makes him a risky signing.

But, Wesley Sneijder, who has played with a few legendary strikers over the years, feels Ekitike is the real deal, and his comments should ease United’s fears.

Sneijder said about Ekitike in March this year: “I’ll tell you, I’ve seen a lot of this boy.

“Now, I may say something really crazy, but I’ll say it anyway: I think he is a mix between Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. I sincerely mean that. ”

“He has that grace from Neymar but also the movements of Mbappe. Suddenly accelerating – that’s something Mbappé also has. And he is only 22 years old. There is really a lot of potential in this boy.”
