People in football think Tottenham have a youngster who could become the next Declan Rice

Tottenham Hotspur have a young player in their academy who people in football think is the next Declan Rice.

Spurs deserve a lot of credit for their recruitment over the last year or so. They haven’t really got any signings wrong, and the way they have focused on youth is really admirable.

A number of Tottenham’s key players are under the age of 24, which is a hugely positive sign. Their future looks incredibly bright as long as they can keep all of their key men.

One young player in particular has been turning heads, and many people in the game think he will be an absolute superstar in the coming years.

What people in football think about Tottenham’s Archie Gray

Tottenham signed Archie Gray from Leeds United at the start of July.

The North Londoners had an eye on the talented 18-year-old for a long time and had to battle a number of clubs for his signature.

Daniel Levy played a key part in convincing Gray to join Tottenham over Brentford, and the Spurs chairman deserves a lot of praise for that.

Gray has been impressing everyone at Tottenham since he joined the club, and he was brilliant in the friendly against Hearts as well.

have now shared what people in football think of Gray.

It has been claimed that many in the game feel the youngster could become ‘the next Steven Gerrard or Declan Rice‘ if Spurs manage his development properly.

The report claims that like Gerrard and Rice, Gray has the ‘tactical intelligence to play in any role you ask of him’. That makes him a dream player for any manager.

Tottenham have really got a gem on their hands, and even though he is still only 18 years old, Gray is expected to get plenty of minutes in the first-team in the 2024/25 season.

Postecoglou used Gray in a surprising new position

Gray has been brought to Tottenham to mainly play in midfield – that is his natural position and it’s where Postecoglou sees his future.

The Englishman, however, played 30 games at right-back for Leeds United in the 2023/24 campaign, so fans knew his ability to play in that role too.

However, what nobody expected was to see Postecoglou use Gray in central defence. The Australian did just that against Hearts in their friendly, and the youngster did a good job there as well.

Speaking about playing as a centre-back, Gray said: “Obviously I wasn’t expecting to play centre-back but honestly I’m really grateful for the opportunity to play and learn different positions.

“I said this last year in an interview but I don’t really care where I play, do you know what I mean, I’m 18 years old and I need to learn the game.

“Honestly, anywhere he puts me I’m just happy to learn the game and have great teammates around me to teach me about the game but yeah really good.”
