People at Liverpool think Arne Slot has made a really ‘smart’ move behind-the-scenes

Arne Slot is starting to stamp his authority at Liverpool.

The new Liverpool manager is starting to implement his own training regimes, and while no new signings have been made yet, there have been some changes at Anfield.

Indeed, there has been a bit of a behind-the-scenes shakeup as the Reds’ new gaffer puts together a new coaching team.

Johnny Heitinga has been hired as one of Slot’s new deputies, and according to David Lynch, speaking to Anfield Index, this move has been received well by those within the club.

Indeed, according to Lynch, people at Liverpool think that Heitinga is a very good coach and that this is a smart appointment.

Lynch shared what he’s heard about Heitinga.

“I think if Slot thinks he’s the right guy and he can get that extra couple of per cent out of those players it’s the right appointment isn’t it?

“You speak to anyone at Liverpool and the message comes back that he’s (Heitinga) very highly rated. Anyone who speaks about him in football speaks about a guy who is pretty smart, he’s got a good coaching background and a real clear idea of how he likes to play football as well.”

Heitinga has fantastic pedigree

It’s difficult to get that excited about a new assistant manager appointment, but it does have to be said that Heitinga looks like the real deal.

Heitinga has bags of experience from his playing days, while he’s actually managed Ajax at a senior level for a period.

Liverpool have always had a strong history of brilliant assistant managers from Bob Paisley to Sammy Lee to Pep Lijnders, and it looks as though Heitinga is cut from the same cloth.

There’s plenty of reason to be excited about Liverpool’s future under the stewardship of both Slot and Heitinga.
