Pellegrini’s West Ham in worse situation 12 months on
Manuel Pellegrini is yet to reap the rewards from his summer spending spree at West Ham that saw him splash over £100m on numerous recruits.
The Hammers may have held Chelsea to a goalless draw and secured a memorable victory over Manchester United but a record of five defeats in eight Premier League matches this season is way below expectations.
Defeats to Brighton, Wolves and Bournemouth are the results that will provide a real kick in the teeth for the club and, overall, it leaves Pellegrini’s side in a worse position to where West Ham found themselves
Under Slaven Bilic, who was sacked at the start of November, West Ham began their campaign with two victories, two draws and four defeats, earning eight points in total and putting them one point ahead of the current Hammers side.
While that may alarm West Ham fans, there are positives in the fact that beatingManchester United and Everton is an upgrade on the same stage last season where their two wins came against Huddersfield Town, then newly-promoted to the top-flight, and Swansea City, who were relegated at the end of the campaign.
It does provide evidence that there is still a lot more work for Pellegrini to do and the pressure upon his shoulders could increase significantly in the next month.
