Pedro Silva claims Vitinha failed to compete for Wolves place
Former Wolves assistant manager Rui Pedro Silva has spoken about the reasons for Vitinha’s struggles with the club last season.
The Portugal youth international joined the Midlanders during last summer’s transfer window on a season-long loan deal. Wolves had the option of signing for , however, didn’t take up the option.
Vitinha was a peripheral figure among the first-team squad, making just 22 appearances across all competitions.
Silva worked under former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo up until his departure at the end of last season.
However, the figure didn’t join up with the 47-year-old at Tottenham Hotspur. Silva has claimed he’s looking to make his way into management.
Speaking about Vitinha, the 44-year-old advised the youngster to choose a project which lets him play more.
The former assistant also claimed competition with more experienced squad members was his reason for his lack of game time.
: “Vitinha had enormous competition: Moutinho, Neves, Dendoncker… But he has evolved and is ready for the next level, which is to be able to play more regularly.”
“I think he should opt for a project that allows him to play more. It’s the game that guarantees you evolution.”

Across his 22 appearances, the young ace scored once and registered one assist.
For a central midfielder, he lacked the desire to get on the ball and make things happen. Vitinha averaged just 17.4 passes per game in the top-flight.
In comparison, his direct rivals for a place, , averaged more than double. When you play at the heart of the side, being able to demand the ball and move it is a key aspect.
It’s easy to see why Vitinha was on the fringes last campaign. His lack of output in the final third compared to his fellow attackers is the reason the club haven’t signed him on a permanent deal.
