Pedro Obiang says he is willing to return to West Ham, after Hammers exit
that he is open to returning to the London Stadium in the future, after leaving the club to join Italian side Sassuolo this summer.
The 27-year-old joined West Ham in the summer of 2015 from Serie A outfit Sampdoria, and has remained in east London since then. Indeed, he has clocked up 116 appearances for the Hammers in that time.
His best moment in a Hammers shirt came last season, as he scored a 30-yard screamer in a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley during the 2017-18 season.
However, his time at West Ham has come to an end after he completed an £8million move (Evening Standard) to Sassuolo. In a departing message to the Hammers board, Obiang has stated that he would be open to a return.
“I am indebted to you (David Sullivan) for bringing me to the club and helping me to achieve a dream of mine – playing in the Premier League, a dream which I have now fulfilled with West Ham,”
“I would have dearly liked to have achieved more in my time at the club, but maybe in the future, if the doors remain open to me, I can return.”
TBR’s view – Obiang a solid player, but West Ham can do better
The reason Obiang has been sold by the Hammers is because Manuel Pellegrini has been able to take West Ham from relegation battlers to challenging for a spot in the top half.
Last season, West Ham finished in tenth place and have been able to attract players such as Felipe Anderson, Jack Wilshere and Sebastian Haller. That is largely because of Pellegrini’s presence as manager.
It has seen the Hammers outgrow players such as Obiang. Unless Obiang becomes a £20million midfielder, or the Hammers decline – a return is unlikely for the Spanish star.
