Pedro Neto says Fulham player did something ‘unbelievable’ during 2-1 Chelsea win

Chelsea secured a dramatic west London derby win over Fulham at Craven Cottage thanks to Pedro Neto.

The Portugal international turned and struck a ferocious strike beyond Bernd Leno in the 93rd minute to snatch a 2-1 win over the Cottagers, which looked a tough ask after Alex Iwobi put Fulham 1-0 up.

Tyrique George also deserves a mention. It was the 19-year-old who equalised in the 83rd minute, his first Premier League goal, to give Chelsea some hope.

The strike set the Blues up nicely for Pedro Neto to snatch all three points – and the Chelsea No.7 found time to praise an opponent while revelling in victory during his interview after the final whistle.

Pedro Neto hails Bernd Leno

The Fulham No.1 hardly saw Neto’s winner fly past him, but did manage to stop the 25-year-old with a fine stop earlier in the west London derby.

It was a save that impressed the Portuguese forward, as he told the : “When I received the ball, I just span around and shot as hard as I can. The ball went in. The first one, Leno did an unbelievable save and I was so frustrated that the second one I had to put all the power into the shot.”

The Germany international got down well to deny Neto at the near post as Fulham led 1-0 in the 56th minute, although the Chelsea star deserves credit for reading how that strike was saved, and adjusting his technique to ensure he beat the Fulham glovesman with his next chance.

Chelsea now face five tough tests

If Chelsea manage to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season, it could all be down to this goal from Neto – who Sam Allardyce admires.

The Blues now embark on a daunting run of Premier League fixtures, involving two direct challengers for the top five.

Some might question Everton being described as a “daunting” fixture here, although David Moyes has transformed the Toffees – they would be eighth if the season began once the Scot replaced Sean Dyche.

After that clash, Chelsea welcome another Merseyside club to west London in Liverpool – who could officially be champions by then – before an away day at Newcastle.

Chelsea then welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge, which is arguably the easiest game of the lot given the Red Devils sit 14th, although Ruben Amorim still has some match winners to trouble Enzo Maresca – who is pushing to sign Liam Delap – such as Bruno Fernandes.

The season finale then comes away at Nottingham Forest, so Chelsea cannot afford to relax after defeating Fulham by any means, with a seriously tough end to the 2024/25 campaign on the horizon.
