Paul Scholes explains why he was ‘disappointed’ with David Raya during Arsenal vs Man City draw
David Raya has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season and once again took centre stage at the Etihad Stadium in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City.
Coming on the back of a stunning display against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League where he saved a penalty to give his side a point, the Spaniard was in the thick of the action for his side and his antics came under scrutiny after the game.
Chris Sutton accused Raya of time wasting as Arsenal tried to eat up every last second to take home three points, although they were pegged back in the dying embers of the game thanks to John Stones.
And now, Raya has attracted a fresh bit of criticism from Paul Scholes, this time for his role in Erling Haaland’s opener.
Paul Scholes criticises David Raya

Although Scholes praised the Arsenal goalkeeper for his overall display, he feels he could have done better to prevent Haaland from scoring.
“Brilliant game, City were outstanding for the first 20 minutes,” said Scholes on The Overlap.
“Scored a goal which you’d expect Haaland to score but I was a little bit disappointed with the goalkeeper if I’m being honest.”
“He was great throughout the game but I felt it was a little easy for him to score and he didn’t have to bend it around, it went straight past him.”
Raya’s stats for Arsenal vs Man City
Raya made a staggering nine saves against Man City, out of which six were efforts from inside the penalty area.
He conceded two goals but it could be argued that he couldn’t have done much to prevent them as he commanded the box and thwarted everything that came his way, particularly in the second half.

He earned himself a rating of 8.6, making him the highest-rated player on the pitch by some distance.
Raya has quietly grown in stature since joining the club from Brentford last season and is up there with the best keepers in the Premier League currently.
