Paul Robinson urges Leeds to sign Tottenham player

he would love to see Leeds United complete a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder Harry Winks this summer – as the Spurs academy graduate continues to struggle for game time.

Winks, 25, broke into the Tottenham side under Mauricio Pochettino and has since clocked up 170 senior outings for the North London club. But this season, the England man has dropped down the pecking order – starting just 20 of 27 games this term.

The signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has pushed Winks down the pecking order, with both Jose Mourinho and interim boss Ryan Mason preferring to play a more-attacking midfielder alongside the Dane – in Gio Lo Celso or Tanguy Ndombele.

Ex-Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper Robinson was asked who he would like to see Leeds sign this summer, and he picked Winks as a player he would target at Elland Road with the £50,000-a-week () midfielder potentially headed for an exit.

“One player I would love to see at Leeds in the Kalvin Phillips role is Harry Winks. He’s not been given his opportunity at Spurs, I think he is a fantastic player. Not only can he do the Phillips role, he can play in midfield as well,”

“Someone with Winks’ quality would really add something to that Leeds side. He is able to play more advanced but can do the Phillips role when he’s not available. I would love to see Winks at Elland Road next season.”

TBR’s view – Winks could be ideal for Leeds

Leeds need a left-back, they need cover for Patrick Bamford, potentially another goalkeeper and they need cover for Kalvin Phillips. An England star himself now, Phillips will always be first choice at Leeds – given he is a boyhood Leeds player.

But they need cover. Without Phillips, Leeds have struggled. But who is going to join Leeds to be the midfielder’s back-up? They need a midfielder that can also play further ahead and as Robinson says, Winks can do that.

Depending on how much Winks would cost, he could be perfect for Leeds.
