BBC pundit says two key Chelsea players are simply ‘not good enough’ for Enzo Maresca

Chelsea have suffered a downturn in form of late, which has seen them slip out of the Premier League’s top six.

The Blues have lost their last two Premier League games, and three of their last five, to drop to seventh place in the table.

Since 22 December, Chelsea have lost double the number of games than they’ve won during that time, and have also been knocked out of the FA Cup.

BBC Sport pundit Paul Robinson has now spoken about two players at Chelsea who simply “aren’t good enough” for Enzo Maresca.

Paul Robinson suggests Chelsea should sell Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen

The players in question are goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, both of whom have come under criticism of late.

Sanchez, who joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 for £19million, has struggled to stake a serious claim to be a regular starter.

Jorgensen has been challenging Sanchez, but the jury is also out on him, particularly in wake of the error which gifted Villa a late win at the weekend.

Robinson believes both Sanchez and Jorgensen “aren’t good enough” and suggested that Maresca needs to sell them both.

He outlined how Liverpool and Manchester City did similar when it came to upgrading goalkeepers who weren’t world-class

“We all know the money they’ve spent, so why has it been such a gross oversight that they’ve failed to invest in two key positions,” Robinson said on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Club.

“They’ve got two decent goalkeepers but neither one is at the top level, and Chelsea want to be at the top level. They’ve both cost them points this season. As has a lack of a number nine.

“I’m not so sure Kepa is at the level either. You look at when Liverpool had Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius. They had two OK goalkeepers. But to go to the next level they went and got Alisson.

“You look at Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He started with Claudio Bravo. He wasn’t happy, he went again because the position is so important.

“It’s been so glaringly obvious for Chelsea this season that neither Robert Sanchez or Filip Jorgensen (pictured) have been good enough.

“The two at Chelsea aren’t good enough to do what the manager wants them to do.”

What Enzo Maresca has said about Chelsea goalkeepers

Maresca admitted to being concerned about Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation after the loss to Villa.

Marco Asensio’s winner came after Jorgensen let the Spaniard’s second strike go straight through him.

Asked if he was worried about the situation, Maresca told BBC Sport’s Match of the Day: “I am always concerned, even when we were winning games, I was concerned.

“Now I am, for sure. The problem with that with goalkeepers is it is a delicate position and when they make a mistake, everyone can see.

“Unfortunately today, our goalkeeper made a mistake. This is a moment we need to support each other and try to stay strong.”
