Paul Robinson reacts as Tottenham man aims dig at Jose Mourinho

Paul Robinson reckons Tottenham Hotspur attacker Gareth Bale was aiming a dig at Jose Mourinho with his post-match comments on Wednesday evening – a🦋fter the Welshman netted his 11th of the season against Southampton.

Bale, 31, cut inside to cancel out Danny Ings’ opener on Wednesday evening as Ryan Mason secured all three points in ๊his first match in interim charge. Son Heung-min also netted, the first being disallowed before scoring a penalty.

Mourinho was sacked on Monday with his defensive style of play criticised on a regular basis by pundits and supporters. Eventually, Daniel Levy lost his patience w🌠ith it when Everton came from 2-1 down to draw last Friday.

Bale said after the match: “We need to be on the front foot a bit more, we’re �▨�a big team with great players and we need to attack more and stay higher up the pitch more,”

Robinson was asked if he felt Bale’s comments were a dig at Mour💖inho and the e🤡x-Tottenham goalkeeper agreed, suggesting that the Welshman had been a bit “tongue in cheek” with his comments after the 2-1 win.

“It was a tongue in cheek thing at Jose,” Robinson told Sky Sports, when asked about Bale’s comments on Thursday morning (10.20am). “The🐭 way they’ve played under Jose, even against a team like Brighton.

“They were trying to counter them. A team like Spurs need to play higher up the field, Jose got an easy rub because the stadiums were empty – where fans could have voiced their opinion.“

TBR’s view – Bale more than welcome to have a Mourinho dig

The Welshman has been forced to watch from the bench for much 𝐆of the season as Mourinho looked to play on the break – and use harder-working wingers, with l🌃ess quality. Namely, Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn.

But he proved on Wednesday night that even though he might not get back and track his runners as much as a Bergwijn, he makes up for it in terms of goals. He now has 11 for the season, Bergwijn has none.

He is more than entitled to be slightly frus♌trate🏅d at life under Mourinho, and his dig is fair.
