Paul Robinson praises ‘brilliant’ Leeds player Patrick Bamford for early-season form
Paul Robinson has raved about Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford for his early-season form and believes he’s really stepped up for his team.
Despite scoring 16 Championship goals last season for the Whites during a title-winning campaign, many people have criticised Bamford for not being a natural finisher and doubted whether he could be a success in the top-flight.
The 27-year-old’s previous experience in the Premier League was brief and his career so far has been far more successful in the second-tier.
But the English centre-forward has been a talisman in the early weeks of the new campaign and helped Leeds win two of their opening three league matches.
Bamford has three goals and two assists in the opening three league fixtures to start the season on fire, plus he’s a nailed-on starter in Marcelo Bielsa’s XI right now despite the signing of Spain international Rodrigo.
Robinson is an awe of Bamford’s individual form at the beginning of the season and singled him out for special praise.
“I’ve been really impressed with the way that Leeds have started, especially Patrick Bamford as well,”
“A lot has been said about not taking chances and Leeds need a number nine someone to takeover the goalscoring charts, but he’s been brilliant this season.
“He’s really taken on the mantle, the manager has given him a vote of confidence and his performances as well as his goals have been fantastic this season. If they are to bring in another striker they’ve got their work on their hands to get the number nine jersey off him because he’s the man in possession at the moment.”

TBR’s View:
Despite several new faces arriving at Elland Road during the summer transfer window, Bielsa is going to be loyal to the players that got him promoted and at least give them a chance to prove they have Premier League quality.
Bamford has been one of the stories of the season so far with his goalscoring form and there has never been a doubt over his work-rate or movement, but he’s usually been let down with his final touch.
He can continue to thrive in Bielsa’s system moving forward and will hope his red-hot form in front of goal continues.
