Paul Robinson pessimistic about Tottenham’s chances of beating Ajax
Paul Robinson is pessimistic about Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of beating Ajax in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night, as he summed up his old side’s chances on Twitter.
Spurs must overcome their 1-0 defeat to Ajax which they suffered at home in the first leg, if they are to qualify for the final. Liverpool await either Ajax or Spurs, after beating Barcelona 4-0 on Tuesday night.
Donny van de Beek’s goal is the difference at the moment, as he scored from close range at Spurs’ new stadium. The north Londoners have been boosted by the return of Son Heung-min from suspension.
Former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson believes Spurs look “stretched, tired and quickly running out of steam” but is also confident that the north Londoners can nick an away goal.
I’ve been saying for some time now what a good team this Ajax team is and that was shown in the first leg.
Spurs look stretched, tired and quickly running out of steam. Poor away at Bournemouth last weekend and they have a huge job to do here against a very good Ajax side!— Paul Robinson (@GKPaulRobinson)
All said I can see Tottenham scoring to cancel out the away goal Ajax have.
Son coming back into the team is a huge bonus.
Going forward Ajax are very good and they will score at home. What are your predictions?

TBR’s view
Like Liverpool on Tuesday night, Spurs need an early goal. Divock Origi scored for Liverpool inside ten minutes and that set the tone for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The difference in this scenario is that Spurs are playing away from home in the second leg, while Liverpool are playing at home. An away goal is crucial because a 2-1 win would see Spurs go through.
Spurs have to go on the front foot and score. But Robinson’s point certainly ring true, especially after another defeat last weekend.
