Paul Robinson not impressed with £195k-a-week Manchester United player v Fenerbahce

Manchester United have been held to a 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce in Thursday’s Europa League encounter in Istanbul.

The Red Devils took the lead through Christian Eriksen in the 15th minute after great work from Manuel Ugarte and Alejandro Garnacho.

Ugarte and Andre Onana helped Manchester United remain level going into the break with some superb contributions at the back.

However, Fenerbahce went on to equalise in the 49th minute as Allan Saint-Maximin crossed for Youssef En-Nesyri to head home.

The spoils were shared by the Red Devils and the Yellow Canaries, who had Mourinho sent off for a red card for arguing over a penalty appeal waved away.

Paul Robinson, covering the game on , spoke about a Man United player needing to “do better” after spurning a second-half chance.

Paul Robinson says Matthijs de Ligt should have done better with second-half header

The player in question is Matthijs de Ligt, who tried his luck with a header after Dominik Livakovic kept out a Noussair Mazraoui effort from distance.

The Dutchman’s effort was also kept out by the Fenerbahce keeper, and Robinson felt he should have done better with his opportunity.

“Matthijs De Ligt should score,” said Robinson. “He gets a decent header on it, but he heads it into the ground. He should do better.”
