Paul Mitchell left Newcastle partially because of what’s happening with £60m player

Newcastle United are heading into a vital transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League.

With little to worry about on the PSR front, Newcastle can finally spend some money and kick on to that elite level this summer.

However, there has been a twist in the tale at Newcastle over the past 24 hours.

Paul Mitchell is leaving his role as Newcastle’s Sporting Director, and that may well have some knock-on effects in terms of their summer plans.

Newcastle had been linked with Bryan Mbeumo heading into the summer, while Liam Delap has been linked to Newcastle too.

Alexander Isak has been linked with a move away from Newcastle, and according to Dean Jones, speaking on the , Isak’s situation did have some bearing on Paul Mitchell’s departure.

Paul Mitchell’s departure linked to Alexander Isak’s contract

Newcastle have wanted Alexander Isak to sign a new contract for a long time.

However, as of yet, Isak hasn’t signed a new deal.

According to Jones, the upheaval we’ve seen at Newcastle today is indeed linked to Isak’s situation and the fact the man hasn’t signed a new deal.

“They’ll sign someone there’s no way they won’t sign someone. They’re not going to keep Darwin and they need to have a forward,” Jones said.

“Maybe Isak is still on the table, maybe, you have seen some upheaval at Newcastle today and some of that is to do with the fact that Isak hasn’t got a new contract and all of that sort of stuff.

“There’s this assumption that they’re in the Champions League, so Isak stays, and that is probably the case, but Liverpool do claim to have a lot of money to spend in this window, and if they’re going to spend big money, you never know.”

How much does Alexander Isak earn?

Alexander Isak is yet to sign his new contract at Newcastle, and that has affected Paul Mitchell’s position at the club.

Mitchell failed to negotiate new terms with Isak, and while that’s not yet a massive problem given that Isak’s contract runs for another three years, it’s a situation that needs resolving.

Isak is arguably the best striker in the world at this point, and this new deal will be expensive for Newcastle.

Indeed, the striker is reportedly only on £120k-a-week, and while that’s a lot of money for most people, it’s not a salary befitting of perhaps the best number nine on the planet.

Isak can surely expect his wages to double the next time he renews his terms or even if he makes a transfer away from St James’ Park.
