Paul Mitchell appointment at Manchester United could be devastating catalyst for Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United’s plans to restructure the club appear to have led them to former Tottenham Hotspur chief Paul Mitchell. the former Tottenham recruitment chief has moved to the head of the queue regarding a similar appointment at Old Trafford.

The former Spurs man is currently in a similar role at German side RB Leipzig but Manchester United feel they can lure the 37-year-old back to Greater Manchester, where he was born.

For Tottenham Hotspur, this could be a potential disaster.

Manchester United have long been tipped as the natural next step for Tottenham’s immensely popular and talented manager Mauricio Pochettino. With Jose Mourinho struggling to inject life into the United team and it looking increasingly likely Pochettino has taken Spurs as far as he can, this undoubtedly sets alarm bells ringing.

The Argentine, who also worked with Mitchell at Southampton, would undoubtedly be easier to convince into an Old Trafford switch should his old pal be at the club.

Tottenham and Mitchell did not exactly have the most amicable of splits, but the bond between the two men is seemingly unaffected.

Not only would Tottenham fear Mitchell’s presence giving United hope of bringing in Pochettino, but they would also be well guarded over their best players considering United’s financial clout.

Plenty would need to happen first, but Mitchell heading to Manchester United could undoubtedly prove a massive catalyst in readdressing the balance between the two sides, to the detriment of Tottenham Hotspur.
