Paul Merson warns Arsenal over reported defensive target Jerome Boateng
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson feels that Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng could well be exposed in English football, as per  (06/01/20 at 10:35 pm).
have linked Boateng with a move to the Gunners this month, but Merson feels the aging legs of the 2013 Champions League winner represent a risk.
He : “I think Arsenal are getting a little carried away here. He is playing at Bayern when they are getting 80 per cent of the ball. This Arsenal team isn’t a 70 per cent possession team anymore. It’s not a team that are dictating games. They need defenders now. People who can defend. They should start looking at lads from Brighton.
“When the ball comes in they head it out. Kick it out. Put it in the stands. These players at Arsenal have gone now where they are getting on the ball and passing it. They need defenders. When you get to 31, you’re not getting quicker. This league is relentless. It’s not the Bundesliga. It’s not playing for Bayern. It’s Arsenal and you’ll be defending./p>

TBR’s View Arsenal should avoid aging Boateng
Bayern Munich don’t let their players go unless they’re convinced they’re over the hill. Ask Manchester United about Bastian Schweinsteiger.
So if they’re willing to do business for Boateng, his legs have likely gone. As Merson says, that’s the last thing an Arsenal side in dire need of solid defenders should be adding.
David Luiz was a short-term gamble which has had mixed results so far and Boateng would be an even greater angle. High wages and aging legs is not a good combination.
