Paul Merson thinks Ivan Perisic will be Tottenham’s surprise star of the season

Paul Merson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur new boy Ivan Perisic is going to be one of the surprise stars in the Premier League next season.
Spurs have had a sensational summer transfer window so far. Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet have all come in, while Djed Spence is reportedly on the verge of joining the club as well.
However, it was Perisic’s signing that got the ball rolling, and as incredible as Bissouma and Richarlison are, the experienced Croatian may prove to be Spurs’ signing of the summer.
Merson has heaped praise on Perisic and has claimed that the 33-year-old has the ‘talent to hold his ground against some of the best players in the world’.

In his column on , Merson wrote: “Ivan Perisic to be one of the surprise stars of the season. I keep going on and on about this, but I’m a massive fan of Ivan Perisic. This guy works as hard as anyone and has the talent to hold his ground against some of the best players in the world – that is some recipe for a player.
“He’s an international footballer who works as hard as someone who has come from non-league football into the big leagues, indicating that he’s got the work-ethic to complement his wonderful natural ability.
“Perisic has played for multiple big teams across Europe’s top five leagues and remains a key player for Croatia, so I expect him to be a huge hit for Tottenham.
“He’s different class and gives Conte the option of playing as a left-wing back and a winger, making him an invaluable asset to the squad.”

TBR View:
Perisic is the perfect player for Conte’s system. There isn’t a better option at left wing-back for the Tottenham boss than the Croatian.
Merson is right, the 33-year-old is incredibly hardworking. The balance he will provide between attack and defence for Spurs next season could make them one of the most dangerous sides in the country.
Apart from his obvious quality on the ball, Perisic will bring a ton of experience to Tottenham. He has played over 650 games for club and country over the years, and has won three league titles in two different leagues.
Richarlison and Bissouma are certainly the names that will catch your eye, but Perisic may go on to become Spurs’ best signing of this summer’s transfer window.
