Paul Merson tells Arsenal the ‘unbelievable’ striker they should sign for £150m in January

Having played with the likes of Ian Wright and Kevin Campbell at Arsenal, Paul Merson understands the importance of an elite club having a top-class striker at their disposal.

Arsenal have also had the likes of Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on their books, who were all world-class goalscorers.

However, since Aubameyang’s departure, Mikel Arteta is yet to have replaced him with an elite centre-forward.

Gabriel Jesus could be sold by Arsenal in the summer for the right offer, despite his recent return to form.

While Kai Havertz has been labelled “average” as an out-and-out number nine since his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal urged to spend £150 million in January to seal Alexander Isak transfer

Gary Neville feels Isak has outdone Erling Haaland in the league this season, such has been the standard of his tremendous campaign in a Newcastle United shirt. Isak has been deemed as Arsenal’s dream striker to lead them to a Premier League title.

Now, Paul Merson has also suggested Arsenal to spend £150 million to sign the Newcastle talisman in the January transfer window.

Merson said on Sky Sports: “Do Newcastle turn down £100 million for [Alexander] Isak?”

“£150 [million], Arsenal will have the money, that takes Arsenal to another level.”

“Unbelievable. They’ve sold [Emile] Smith Rowe, they’ve sold a few players, they’ve sold [loaned Aaron] Ramsdale, they have money, they look after themselves very well, Arsenal.”

Paul Merson admitted that he would have disliked coming up against Isak during his playing days.

“I like [Kai] Havertz, don’t get me wrong but I’d rather him play deeper because he then gets in the box, he’s an extra man in the box but I like Isak, I think he’s unbelievable. I’d hate to mark him.”

In August 2023, Les Ferdinand admitted that the former Real Sociedad hitman “reminds” him of Zlatan Ibrahimovic while speaking to , highlighting how highly he is rated.

Alexander Isak happy to stay at Newcastle in January despite Arsenal’s interest

TBR Football reported on Wednesday that Isak is happy to stay at Newcastle in January despite Arsenal’s interest in his signature.

The 25-year-old is also not intending to push to leave St. James’ Park in January.

Arsenal’s only hope for signing Isak could come in the summer if Newcastle do not qualify for the Champions League.

TBR Football have been informed that Eddie Howe’s side are aware that in case they do not secure Champions League football next season, it will be a virtually impossible task for them to keep hold of Isak.

However, with Arsenal not planning to spend big on a striker in January, it seems highly unlikely that they will follow Paul Merson’s command this month.
