Paul Merson on what Southampton and Manchester City must keep in mind ahead of their match
Manchester City will look to make it five wins in a row when they take on struggling Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s Citizens will be heavy favourites against Russell Martin’s Saints, who have only picked up one point all season.
Manchester City go into this game on the back of a 5-0 rout of Sparta Prague, while Southampton had their hearts broken by Leicester City last time out.
The Saints led 2-0 by the half-hour mark of the game, only for the Foxes to bring it back to 2-2 before scoring the winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Paul Merson has now predicted how he thinks Manchester City and Southampton will fare on Saturday, as well as sharing what both teams need to keep in mind.

Paul Merson tells Manchester City and Southampton goal difference could be key at season’s end
Merson, writing on , says he’s “being kind to Southampton” by only predicting a 4-0 win for Manchester City.
The Premier League icon also said goal difference could have a big impact on the final standings at both ends of the table.
With that in mind, Merson suggested Manchester City should look to score as many as possible, while Southampton will need to do all they can to avoid a rout
He wrote: “I mean, what will the result be in this one? You guess!
“Southampton will try to play all their fancy stuff and in the end they will get shredded to pieces. That’s the only outcome, they will get destroyed by Manchester City.
“I’m going to go for a 4-0 win to City and I’m being kind to Southampton here. Honestly, if Pep Guardiola’s team get going, this could become any scoreline.
“Losing against Leicester after going 2-0 would’ve hurt Southampton so bad. No way they’re getting anything from this game at the Etihad.
“We could be looking at goal difference to determine final standings at both ends of the table. Both City and Southampton need to keep that in mind.”
