Paul Merson says he’s been ‘disappointed’ by £50m Arsenal player

Arsenal have a number of key players in the England squad.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale all went to the Euros, while Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah both also have caps to their name.

Ben White has an interesting history with the England team, he was once a semi-regular member of the squad, but after a reported fall-out with the coaching staff, he’s put his international career on hold.

Indeed, White reportedly turned down an England call-up earlier this year.

Speaking on the , Paul Merson has been discussing White’s decision in regards to playing for England, and he says that he’s disappointed in the defender’s decision to halt his international career.

Paul Merson disappointed in Ben White

Merson spoke about the man and his England career.

“I think if Ben White was playing he wouldn’t have walked away,” Merson said.

“I think he looked at it and thought he wasn’t going to play. Walker is a shoo-in, there, Reece James was unfortunate not to go. I hope that doesn’t happen (other players walking away from England), I was disappointed when Ben White did it to be honest, the lad is a good player, if you look now he probably would have played.”

Ben White could be back soon

Ben White could soon be back in the fold in the England set-up.

Gareth Southgate’s departure will spark the dawn of a new era for the national team, and the new manager may well have plans for White.

Southgate and White seemingly didn’t get on too well, but now, with a new manager set to be appointed, Ben White could soon be back in the England fold.

White is one of the best and most versatile defenders in the Premier League, and it’s fair to say that England could use a player like this in the future.
