Paul Merson says ‘amazing’ £30m Arsenal player proved a lot of people wrong vs Porto
Paul Merson believes David Raya has proven a lot of people wrong after his heroics for Arsenal against Porto last night.
David Raya proved to be the hero at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening as Arsenal secured a penalty shootout win over Porto.
The Spaniard made two exceptional saves during the shootout to deny both Wendell and Galeno.

Raya continues to impress between the sticks after much was made about Mikel Arteta’s decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale.
And Paul Merson believes that off the back of last night’s display, Raya has proven many of his doubters wrong.
Merson says Raya has proven people wrong after Porto heroics
Speaking on , Merson lauded Raya after Arsenal’s penalty shootout victory in the Champions League last night.
“An amazing night for Raya, who, let’s be honest, took a lot of stick when he first got to Arsenal and he’s proven tonight what a brilliant goalkeeper he is,” the Arsenal legend said.

While Arsenal’s spot-kick takers certainly played their part last night, Raya has deservedly grabbed the headlines after a stunning performance.
The man’s save to deny Wendell was particularly impressive as he somehow managed to get a fingertip on the ball to turn it onto the post.
He also came close to keeping Marko Grujic’s penalty out, which in truth, he probably shouldn’t have been able to get anywhere near.
After a shaky start to life at Arsenal, Raya has established himself as Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper.
It’s fair to say that many questioned the Spaniard’s decision after Ramsdale enjoyed such a brilliant campaign last time out.
But Raya has helped Arsenal become a more well-rounded side and his penalty shootout showing was quite exceptional. It helped the Gunners reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2010.
