Paul Merson reckons Everton 24-year-old will be key under Rafael Benitez
Paul Merson is suggesting that Everton manager Rafael Benitez will make Dominic Calvert-Lewin a key part of his plans at Goodison Park.
Calvert-Lewin, 24, is a highly-rated striker that has seen his reputation soar in the past couple of years. For instance, he was with the England squad at the Euros this summer after scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season.
However, he’ll now be starting fresh under a new manager this campaign.
The centre-forward appeared to have a great understanding with ex-Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti, something he needs to try find again.
Pundit Merson feels that Benitez will have big plans or the Englishman.
“I’m going to go for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be in the running for the Premier League Golden Boot as well. He started the 2020-21 season in stunning style, but Everton didn’t play to his strengths in the second half of the season,” Merson .
“Rafa will make sure Calvert-Lewin gets the service he requires and urge his wingers to put balls into the box.”

Benitez needs Calvert-Lewin to shine for Everton
If Benitez looks at the Everton squad he’s inheriting, surely Calvert-Lewin is one of the names that jumps out at him as a huge positive.
First of all, he’s the team’s biggest goal threat that is ultimately going to win games. Secondly, he’s someone that can be developed into an even better player with all his potential. Finally, he’s perfect for the English game with his blend of pace and power.
The Merseyside club could do with more competition for the number nine position in the new season, but Calvert-Lewin is the frontrunner to spearhead the attack.
