Paul Merson previously compared Tottenham-linked Danny Ings with Teddy Sheringham
Tottenham are being linked wth Southampton’s talisman Danny Ings this summer, who Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson once compared to Spurs legend Teddy Sheringham.
, Spurs have made contact to Premier League rivals Southampton about their highly-rated 28-year-old.
The report explains that the Saints have responded by saying they are desperate to keep the English centre-forward in this transfer window.
Ings has had rotten luck with injuries throughout his career, but appears to have overcome that at St Mary’s and is now a key player at Southampton.
He scored a remarkable 25 goals in 42 games across all competitions for them and as a result is back in the England squad under manager Gareth Southgate.

Merson previously him to former Spurs striker Sheringham, who scored 103 goals in 248 appearances for the North London club and hugely successful player in English football.
He was a major success at Manchester United and West Ham too at club level, with sharp finishing around the box and intelligent movement real trademarks of his game.
“He ain’t blessed as lightning, but he’s a Teddy Sheringham – got a great brain, he can see things,”
The report suggests it’s unlikely Southampton will be willing to let their star forward leave this summer, but he would be a superb back-up option to Harry Kane if Spurs could secure a deal for him.
Jose Mourinho’s side need to move quickly to bring in a new striker, as their fixture schedule is piling up right now due to domestic and European competitions and they risk burning England captain Kane out.
