Paul Merson predicts what will happen with Raheem Sterling after Kai Havertz’s injury
Arsenal really need to step things up if they’re going to win the Premier League title.
ꦍGary Neville believes Arsenal can still win the league🐟, but the Gunners are going to have to pick up the pace if they want to catch Liverpool at the top of the table.
𝕴However, Arsenal do now face an uphill battle as their attack has been decimated.
Indeed, not only are Arsenal without Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz is now out for the rest of the season too.
Arsenal will need to get creative in their attack, and there’s an argument to that Declan Rice should be used as a striker.
Raheem Sterling could play up front as well, and according to Paul Merson♔, writing in his column for Sportskeeda, this opportunity could be the making of Sterling at Arsenal.

Raheem Sterling could improve at Arsenal
♔Merson shared his verdict on Sterling after Kai Havertz’s injury.
🅘The pundit reckons that Arteta will now put faith in the Chelsea loanee, and Merson thinks that could indeed work in Sterling’s favour, claiming that the attacker has what it takes to make this opportunity count.
🦋“Raheem Sterling has to step up for Arsenal now. I know it has not gone according to plan for him, but I expect him to stand up and make his presence felt. He will get a consistent run of games due to the injuries at Arsenal and I believe he can make it count. Mikel Arteta could be like, ‘here are a few games for you, go out and play with freedom’, and I think that could work in favour of Sterling,” Merson wrote.
🧸“Until Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli return from injury, it’s going to be Sterling, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri in attack. That is a lot of responsibility for these players. Also, Arsenal kick off early this weekend and that is a huge boost for them. By the time Liverpool play Wolves on Sunday, Arsenal will likely be just four points behind them.”
Raheem Sterling’s title race record
🧜Arsenal are threadbare in the attack as we head into the business-end of the season, but if there’s any player you’d like to be able to call upon at this point, it’s Raheem Sterling.
ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚSay what you will about Sterling, but he has been here and done it all before.
ꦚIndeed, the man is a four-time Premier League winner, and when it comes time to kick on and get the job done, Sterling often comes alive.
Raheem Sterling stats in final 10 games of title-winning seasons | 2017/18 | 2018/19 | 2020/21 | 2021/22 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Goals | 4 | 5 | 2 | 6 |
Assists | 5 | 1 | 2 | 4 |
ꦦSterling has been effective towards the end of title-winning seasons before, and while he’s not been at the races for Arsenal so far, he could, once again, be a difference-maker this term.
ꦡAs Merson says, this is Sterling’s chance to step up and prove his worth, and who knows? With a string of good performances, perhaps he can earn a permanent move to Arsenal in the summer.
