Paul Merson keen to see how West Ham summer signing will do this season after ‘ripping it up’ last term
West Ham United have enjoyed a superb summer on the transfer front, making eight new signings.
The Hammers didn’t waste any time when the window opened as they wrapped up the signings of Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham and Max Kilman.
West Ham then got three more signings done early in August, as Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez all arrived at the London Stadium.
The Hammers have since signed two more players, landing Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.
West Ham had a good squad going into the close season, but now they look like they could cause some upsets in the upper reaches of the table.
Paul Merson has spoken about the Hammers’ transfer business, singling out one player in terms of seeing how he does this season.

Paul Merson curious to see how Crysencio Summerville does at West Ham
The player in question is Crysencio Summerville, who joined West Ham from Leeds in a deal reportedly worth £25million including add-ons.
The “outstanding” talent – in Daniel Farke’s words – really came to the fore last season, with 21 goals and 10 assists from 49 outings in all competitions.
Merson, writing on , said: “West Ham have bought well this summer and will be hard to defeat.
“Crysencio Summerville was ripping it up in the Championship last season, but he will now be playing against better full-backs – we’ll have to wait and see.
Merson predicts West Ham v Aston Villa result
West Ham are set to get their Premier League campaign under way at 5:30pm on Saturday as they host Aston Villa at the London Stadium.
Merson has backed the two claret-and-blue teams to play out a 1-1 draw, predicting it to be a tough game for both sides.
“If you’re City, Arsenal, or Liverpool and you take four out of six points off Aston Villa, that’s a bonus,” said Merson. “Those are points that you have gained on your competitors.
“They’re a difficult team to beat but they’re in the Champions League. This will be a long season for them, and they’re not used to it. Some of their players have not played in Europe at all.
“Aston Villa have a very good manager, however, and that will make a difference.
“This is a difficult game for both teams. West Ham have bought well but their players will have to gel well together.
“A draw will be a good result for both sides this weekend.”
