Paul Merson explains what’s shocked him about James-Ward Prowse’s move from West Ham to Nottingham Forest
West Ham United and Nottingham Forest look to be sorting out a deal for James Ward-Prowse before the deadline.
Julen Lopetegui has his eyes set on signing Carlos Soler and that one looks to be close.
This is the replacement for James Ward-Prowse who is on his way to Nottingham Forest as things stand.
Outside of that deal, a striker is something that Julen Lopetegui wants with just Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Nicklas Fullkrug.
Danny Ings has stated that he wants to stay at West Ham but perhaps he’s not of the quality that Lopetegui is looking for, and Antonio is getting on now.
Regardless, it was a different deal that left Paul Merson shocked on Sky Sports after a development involving the Hammers emerged…
Paul Merson left shocked at what he’s heard about West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse
It comes as a big surprise to see Ward-Prowse being let go by the Hammers as he scored seven and assisted 12 in all competitions last season, which is a brilliant return for a central midfielder.
Julen Lopetegui clearly must have seen something he didn’t like.

Speaking live on , Paul Merson has revealed his shock at the fact that the Englishman is joining Nottingham Forest of all clubs.
“He’s a great passer of the ball. They’ve got a lot of pace at Nottingham Forest going forward and now they’ve got someone of his talent behind them putting the ball through for them.
I think it’s a no-brainer. I think it’s a good signing. I was quite shocked when I see it that he was going there.”
Will West Ham regret this decision?
Lopetegui made sure to sort a replacement in the form of Carlos Soler and while it’s a like-for-like replacement in terms of position, he hasn’t been able to replicate Ward-Prowse’s returns.
He managed just two goals and four assists in 28 games for Paris Saint-Germain, which isn’t terrible for a central midfielder.
But, he’s clearly a player that Lopetegui trusts and he believes he can do a job.
Afterall, the Max Kilman signing already looks to be a masterstroke, so you have to trust him.
