Paul Merson calls Allan one of the buys of the window after Everton win

Paul Merson claimed that Everton midfielder Allan could turn out to be one of the best signings of the transfer window after his performance at the weekend in the Premier League.

The Brazilian enforcer helped the Toffees keep up their brilliant start to the season with a 2-1 away victory against Crystal Palace.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison scored for the Merseyside club either side of a header from Cheikhou Kouyate to earn them three points.

That means they’ve won all five of their opening games across all competitions, which has seen them reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and they also sit top of the league after three games.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has revamped his midfield during the summer transfer window, something which has played a major part in their results.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has been a steady influence since he joined from Watford, while Allan has adapted to English football immediately since his transfer from Napoli.

Merson singled out 29-year-old Allan in his post-match analysis of Everton’s win and is majorly impressed by him.

“The two (Allan and Doucoure) sat in front of the defence are very disciplined. Allan is a good player. I think he’s one of the buys of the window,”

TBR’s View:

Everton have been crying out for a defensive rock since the departure of Idrissa Gueye from Goodison Park and it looks like they’ve found that in Allan, who appears to be a serious bargain at the £21.7million () transfer fee they paid for him.

He’s an all-action midfielder that breaks up play in the centre of the park and must be a defender’s dream to play behind, plus his presence allows some of the more attack-minded players to push on more freely.

It’s only three games into the league campaign, but Ancelotti is beginning to stamp his authority on the side and they look far more balanced compared to last season.
