Paul Konchesky believes Klopp may have to consider new back-up goalkeeper for Liverpool

Former Liverpool full-back Paul Konchesky believes Jurgen Klopp may have no choice but to consider signing a new back-up goalkeeper for Alisson in January.

Against Aston Villa, Adrian was given a rare start after Alisson was ruled out of the game having come off worst in an accidental training ground collision.

it to be a shoulder injury for the Brazilian, and Klopp has said further assessments will be done over the international break.

It is therefore not out of the question that Adrian could be set for another run in the team, and that will not please a section of the Liverpool faithful.

The former West Ham stopper has made a number of errors leading to goals during his time at Anfield, and many have questioned his quality in terms of being appropriate cover for Alisson.

, Konchesky expressed his own concern about Adrian.

He said: “Alisson is a big act to follow. I do think Adrian is capable of being backup for Liverpool, but if he keeps making mistakes there I think Klopp will have to be looking to bring someone in in January.

His performance against Villa on Sunday was very worrying and will not fill fans with confidence as they hope Alisson’s injury isn’t too serious.

He has to be treading a fine line at the moment, and if he is needed to replace Alisson for a few games or more, then he’ll need to tighten his focus and cut out the errors.

Any more glaring mistakes and it could well be curtains for him at Anfield, as Konchesky suggests.
