Patrick Bamford says Leeds teammate still gets mocked for being outpaced by Everton player

Patrick Bamford has revealed that Leeds United teammate Ian Poveda is still teased after being outpaced by Everton midfielder Fabian Delph earlier in the season.

Poveda, 21, is a highly-rated winger who’s part of the first-team squad at Elland Road, and is a developing talent.

The English wide player has made 15 senior appearances across all competitions this season, and has had a few cameo performances lately in the Premier League.

However, Whites forward Bamford has admitted that Poveda is still mocked over an incident earlier in the season.

He’s referring to last November when he was outpaced at Goodison Park by Everton”s Delph.

31-year-old Delph, who was previously a Leeds player, is a central midfielder who’s never been renowned for his speed. It’s worth noting though that in his peak he was a quality performer who’s had 20 caps for England.

“He got outpaced by Delph, who must be getting late 30s now, and he got outpaced by him in a game earlier in the season, and he’s not lived it down,” Bamford told .

It’s slightly alarming that a wide player in Poveda is teased over his speed, as it’s usually such a vital attribute for a winger at the top level.

Fortunately, he’s a diminutive figure that does move fast when he’s dribbling with the ball at his feet, and he’s shown flashes of his true ability.

He’s in the perfect surrounding right now to learn from more senior attacking teammates about his game.
