BBC pundit Pat Nevin has highlighted one player he wishes would have started for Celtic in last night’s Europa League defeat against AC Milan.
The Bhoys were defeated 3-1 at Celtic Park, as the Rossoneri claimed a well-earned victory in Glasgow.
Whilst it was always going to be a tough fixture against Milan, even if the golden era at the San Siro is over, Celtic fans will be disappointed that they did not manage to get a result from the fixture.
Nevin, working in his role as awas clearly disappointed in the team selection from Neil Lennon for the game – suggesting that Ryan Christie should have been in the starting XI.
“Christie is a superb player. Obviously, he had to take that break off but I have to say I was really surprised he didn’t start today. I would have really liked to have seen him on the field,” Nevin stated.

“(Leigh) Griffiths looked really lively in that first-half and if they had had that team and been positive and went and attacked the opposition you just never know. It’s the Celtic way, they go and attack teams, they don’t care who it is. Whoever comes to this stadium they go and attack them.
“When you’re playing three at the back and you cannot get through teams it’s just not good enough for these Celtic fans.”
Christie has, of course, been out of action observing quarantine and that may have influenced Lennon’s decision making.
But there is no doubt his creativity in the final third could have been a much-needed boost to this Celtic side.
Clearly, Celtic need to find the balance in big games like this, but the absence of Christie was something that Nevin felt was of a major detriment to the Celtic team.
Hopefully, Celtic can be more ambitious when they face off with Milan again later this season.
