Paris Saint-Germain to rival Jose Mourinho for transfer of Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum
According to , Paris Saint-Germain have begun to eye a free summer transfer of Liverpool’s out-of-contract midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Ligue 1 giants are desperate to strengthen Mauricio Pochettino’s engine room after seeing the unit left desperately wanting when without Marco Verratti this season.
PSG feel the Italian offers much of their creative spark from the core of the pitch and have marked Wijnaldum as the first step towards addressing those concerns, as the Dutchman is available without a fee during difficult economic conditions.
Barcelona are still thought to be among the clubs courting Wijnaldum after the 30-year-old reportedly agreed to a pre-contract with the La Liga outfit (), as he prepares for a future away from Merseyside after five seasons.
Inter Milan have also long held an interest in the international () and on his situation, while Pochettino could face competition from the man who replaced him at Tottenham Hotspur.
Jose Mourinho is said to be considering Wijnaldum as a potential first signing for his tenure at AS Roma (), with a three-year contract and the guarantee of a leading role on the cards.

Sunday’s meeting with Crystal Palace could mark Wijnaldum’s final appearance in Liverpool colours with his £90,000-per-week () contract set to expire at the end of next month, but it clearly remains to be seen where the former Newcastle United man will be next term.
Wijnaldum seemingly has his pick of destinations among some of Europe’s elite sides, who each have their benefits with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain able to offer him the chance to compete for titles and in the Champions League straight away.
Roma would appear as more of a project for the Reds’ vice-captain as Mourinho would not be able to present an immediate place in UEFA’s top club competition, yet the guarantee of a regular role could swing Wijnaldum’s train of thought.
