Paraguay fans and Florian Lejeune react as Newcastle star Miguel Almiron shines

Miguel Almiron produced a stunning display for Paraguay on Thursday night as the Newcastle United star helped his country earn a crucial point against Lionel Messi’s Argentina – and Paraguay fans have praised the attacker.

Almiron earned his 26th cap for Paraguay as he started on the left of a front three, alongside the likes of West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena. He provided the difference for his country, as Argentina dominated.

It was the £60,000-a-week () Newcastle star that stood out – and helped open the scoring. Picking the ball up on the left flank, Almiron glided past a number of Argentina players before entering the penalty area.

Defender Lucas Martinez Quarta brought him down, allowing Angel Romero to score a penalty. However, Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez equalised for his country, and the scoreline remained the same throughout.

Messi did make an impact for Argentina, having a goal ruled out by VAR in the second half. Despite Argentina boasting 68% possession, and having 15 attempts, Paraguay earned a point in the World Cup qualifier.

Paraguay fans were delighted with Almiron’s display and reacted on social media after the match, as did defender Florian Lejeune in response to Almiron’s Instagram – posting a series of emojis.
