Almost every Liverpool fan hoped that Steven Gerrard would take over at Anfield after his spell at Rangers came to an end. However, he will be a rival now at fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

The Villans confirmed that the legendary Englishman will take over from Dean Smith. He will be under a lot of pressure there, but the experience he has gained at Ibrox will surely help him out.

Gerrard spoke to this week and the obvious questions about Liverpool were asked. Villa head to Anfield in the second week of December and emotions will be high.

However, the new Aston Villa boss has made it absolutely clear that he’ll be going back to Anfield to beat his beloved Liverpool.

Gerrard: I want to beat Liverpool at Anfield

The Villa manager : “Listen, I don’t think me or anyone else will be able to control the noise.

“For me, that’s not important. What’s important is the chance to go to Anfield and win and try and take maximum points, which is the attitude and mentality we have going into every game.

“It is what it is. I want to win every game that I play in and now my priority and my focus and everything I will give on a daily basis will be for Aston Villa.

“One thing I can guarantee to the supporters and the players and all the staff here is that when I commit to something, I’m all in.”

Liverpool fans react

Ever since Gerrard put on his first Liverpool kit, he has wanted the Reds to win every single game. His love and support for the club are undeniable, but his allegiances will be slightly different now.

Liverpool fans would’ve never expected Gerrard to say that he wants to come to Anfield and beat the Reds. Although every Reds supporter understands that he has to do that as the manager of a rival club now, his comments were still ‘painful to hear’ for some.
