Pablo Zabaleta responds when asked if Lionel Messi could move to Manchester City

that he would love to see Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi move to Manchester City this summer – claiming it would be a dream for Pep Guardiola to sign the player he managed at Nou Camp.

Messi, 33, has been unbelievable for Barcelona once again this season – scoring an enormous 29 goals in 33 appearances as well as laying on 13 assists. The 142-time Argentina international is out of contract at Barcelona this summer.

He turns 34 in June but Barcelona are desperate to keep him. Joan Laporta has won the Barcelona presidential election and is keen to keep him, but a new deal needs to be orchestrated sooner rather than later. If anyone can sign him, City have a chance.

Manchester City icon Zabaleta has responded when asked if the Argentine sensation – his former international teammate – could move to The Etihad this summer, and he reckons there is certainly a chance given Guardiola remains in charge.

“That would be a dream, for Pep, for the club for the fans to have Messi. Even just Premier League fans to have Messi in England. As an ex-Man City player, I would love him to go there. I would love that. But we will see,”

“Barcelona have a new president, he is trying to convince Leo to stay. Barca could bring in two or three world-class players. I can also understand Messi stating his whole life in Barcelona.

“Maybe he wants a different experience, maybe he wants to experience English football. Man City would be the best choice to do that, he knows Pep,” Zabaleta added. “He can play the false nine role, we will see.”

TBR’s view – Do City really have a chance of getting Messi?

If Messi is to leave Barcelona this summer, then City probably have the best chance because Guardiola remains in the dugout. The Spaniard has already stated that City will not spend big on a striker this summer, and Messi is currently available on a free.

So yes, they have a chance, but to see Messi in a different shirt to a Barcelona one seems ridiculous. It seems near impossible, but while Barcelona do not extend his contract – he certainly remains a possibility. Time will tell, but there is a chance.
