Owen Hargreaves thinks Arsenal should sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos
Owen Hargreaves has told BT Sport (August 16, 7pm) that he thinks Arsenal and Chelsea should be considering Sevilla ace Diego Carlos – as the Brazilian continues to impress on the European stage with Julian Lopetegui’s side.
Carlos, 27, has been in inspired form for Sevilla this season – clocking up 44 outings in all competitions and forming a rock-solid centre-back partnership with Jules Kounde. Carlos has helped keep 21 clean sheets in those games.
The Brazilian – who is yet to win a cap for his country – only joined Sevilla from Nantes last summer for £14million The same report claims Sevilla would only sell Carlos for his release clause, worth £68million.
Hargreaves said, following Sevilla’s 2-1 win over Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Europa League, that Arsenal and Chelsea should be looking at Carlos – and cannot understand why they do not sign players like him.

“I think Sevilla have the best centre-back, the most underrated centre-back, in European football in Diego Carlos,” Hargreaves said. “I think he is a fabulous player, Brazilian, 27, is rugged, can compete, really good player.
“I think after this game everyone’s going to: ‘How come Chelsea or Arsenal don’t sign these players?’.”
TBR’s view – Why? Because Sevilla are unwilling to budge
And who can blame them? Carlos has been a sensational signing, and if the Spanish outfit win the Europa League – then he will have been one of the signings of Europe’s top five leagues at just £14million.
Commanding, confident, technically-gifted but also as strong as an ox, Carlos has it all. It is difficult to identify how much he is truly worth, but Sevilla are right to want his release clause and nothing less.
