Owen Hargreaves says one West Brom player really impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been praised by Optus Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves following his weekend heroics.

The Baggies signed Johnstone in the summer of 2018, after they had been relegated to the Championship, from Manchester United for a reported £6.5million fee.

Although the 27-year-old’s time at The Hawthorns hasn’t been without the odd criticism, he has taken superbly to life back in the top flight, despite Albion struggling as a whole.

Johnstone was impressive in Sunday’s Premier League draw with his former club, helping West Brom to a 1-1 draw.

Although he didn’t have much to do, he was superb when called upon, making a great save with his feet to deny Mason Greenwood and then expertly thwarted Harry Maguire in stoppage time.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows Sam Johnstone really well,” former Red Devils midfielder Hargreaves told .

“He was at United as a kid in the academy and he went up to him, gave him a fist bump there, realised what a great goalkeeper he is and (what an) unbelievable save, but hugely disappointing for United.”

West Brom remain deep in relegation trouble and you can’t help but wonder how much worse off they’d be were it not for Johnstone.

Could Johnstone remain with the Baggies should they return to the Championship?

Given his contract only runs until 2022 and he’s proven he’s more than capable in the Premier League, meaning very likely interest from top-flight suitors, you’d sadly have to say it’s not likely.
