‘Outstanding’… BBC pundit simply can’t believe how much 26-year-old Tottenham player has changed

Whilst many expected that Tottenham Hotspur would improve with Ange Postecoglou at the helm this season, the change has been quite remarkable.

Spurs are an entirely different team to this time last year, when Daniel Levy was heading towards Antonio Conte’s sacking.

And in this fresh new era, several Tottenham players have improved to no end.

Perhaps Pedro Porro and Yves Bissouma were the early season standouts – even if Bissouma’s ill-discipline has proved a slight set-back.

That being said, Richarlison’s recent form should also be considered in the same breath, a forward now willing to shoulder responsibility.

And when forming his for the BBC, pundit Garth Crooks was pretty amazed by changes Richarlison has made with both his game and his mentality.

Crooks admitted that he wasn’t previously the biggest fan of the 26-year-old, but has now seen a huge improvement.

The pundit pointed to Richarlison’s goal and lack of celebration at Everton this weekend as a clear sign of a corner turned.

Discussing Richarlison’s progress, Crooks said: “Tottenham and Everton fans will know that Richarlison is not one of my favourite players.

“In the past he has been petulant, complaining and dramatic, bordering on infantile, but since the departure of Son Heung-min to the Asian Cup the Brazilian has shown a side to himself I didn’t think he possessed.

“His goal, not to mention his performance in the 3-2 win against Brentford, was outstanding while his conduct having scored two goals in the 2-2 draw at Everton four days later was as respectful as I have seen from any footballer towards a former club.

“Not only did Richarlison recognise the significance of the goals, but the devastating effect it may have on Everton’s future.

“To put his hands together and bow in an apologetic gesture to the Gwladys Street End was about as respectful as it gets.”

Of course, the change fans have seen this season may well extend Richarlison’s stay at Tottenham.

It wasn’t always certain that the Brazilian would be a Postecoglou player, he struggled at Spurs prior to this season.

But as well as enjoying a change in mentality, Richarlison is now ultimately able to find the back of the net, which solves so many issues.

Last season Richarlison managed just one goal in 27 Premier League games, with the forward now netting ten times in 20 games.

And in truth, Son Heung-Min hasn’t been missed quite as much as expected whilst at the Asian Cup.

However, Spurs are now experiencing an issue from set-pieces this season
